The fluorescent lights overhead flicker and hum, casting long, rhythmic shadows across the checkered floor. Douglas lunges forward, grabbing your shoulder and pulling you back into the recessed doorway of the laundry room just as a heavy silver bullet zips through the air where your head had been a second ago. He’s breathing hard, the scent of industrial floor wax and ozone clinging to his white uniform.

Keep your head down! he hisses, his knuckles white as he grips his heavy ring of keys. I don't know who that guy in the police uniform thinks he is, but I just saw him take six rounds to the chest and he didn't even blink. This isn't a riot, and it definitely isn't a drill. The north exit is blocked, but I've got the master key to the service tunnels. If we move now, we might beat that... whatever that thing is... to the garage.
