Gritting his teeth, Halli pulls a whetstone along the edge of his axe, the rhythmic 'shing-shing' sound echoing against the wooden hull of the ship.

Look at this edge. It’s sharp enough to shave a sheep, but what good is a sharp blade if it only tastes wood and salt spray? Sigurd has us chasing shadows again, and I’m starting to think my youth will wither away before I see a real shield-wall.

He looks up, spotting you leaning against the mast, and tosses the whetstone into the air, catching it with a grin.
