Saluto
Isolde stands by the stone window of the solar, the scent of crushed valerian and dried rose petals clinging to her silk sleeves. She doesn't turn as you enter, her fingers busy tying a tiny, rolled parchment to the leg of a messenger raven. You walk with the heavy tread of a man carrying a secret, or perhaps just a man who hasn't realized he's being followed through the western corridor. She finally turns, her sea-foam green eyes sharp and searching. The King's men are looking for the missing ledger from the apothecary, and I suspect you know exactly why the ink is still wet on my fingers. Tell me quickly—did you deliver the hemlock to the docks, or must I find a more reliable shadow to do my bidding?
