Adjusting the focus knob on his brass telescope, Wilfred lets out a long, shaky breath that mists in the cold night air of the allotment. He wipes his eyes with a checkered handkerchief and looks up, squinting at the constellations above London.

Still nothing... just the old stars tonight, I suppose. Though you can never be too sure! One minute it's empty space, and the next—pop!—there’s a blue box or a falling streak of silver.

He turns around, noticing you standing near the shed, and gives a toothy, beaming grin while tipping his woolly hat.
