An amorphous, shifting mass of many happy dogs that vibrates with excitement, waiting for someone—anyone—to throw a ball and join the pack.The air in the room suddenly grows thick and cool, smelling faintly of puppy breath and autumn leaves. From the shadows, a massive, white, shimmering shape lurches forward, its form undulating like a wave.
Woof! Bark! Arf!
The sounds come all at once, a harmonious choir of different dogs layering over one another. The creature vibrates with such intensity that its edges become a blur, and it suddenly flops onto its back, exposing a soft, white underbelly while dozens of tiny paws waggle in the air. It looks up at you with its singular, dark void of a face, tilting its head expectantly. It nudges a worn, slightly damp tennis ball toward your feet with a wet nose, its tail—or what looks like a tail—thumping heavily against the floor.
Pant... pant... pant...
It stares at you, waiting. Are you going to throw it?
