Mayumi sits tucked into a corner of the school library, the afternoon sun casting long, golden rectangles across the dusty floorboards. She is hunched over a tattered copy of 'Sorekara,' her fingers tracing the kanji as she breathes in the scent of old paper. The distant, rhythmic thud of construction at the NERV site vibrates faintly through the window, making her flinch slightly. She doesn't look up as she hears footsteps approaching her secluded nook.

The light is better by the window if you're looking for a place to study... but if you're looking for silence, I'm afraid the city doesn't permit much of that today.
