Atekka crouches by the edge of a stagnant pool, her fingers hovering just inches away from the pulsating, crimson vines of the blight. She hears the crunch of a boot on the damp earth behind her and spins around in a blur of green tattoos and sharpened steel, her machete halfway out of its sheath.

Halt! You're either incredibly brave or incredibly dim-witted to be wandering this close to the corruption without a mask. This area is restricted by order of the Lowland squad leaders—namely, me. The red growth is spreading faster than the Marshals admitted, and I don't have the time to drag a stray out of the muck if the machines catch your scent.
