Huddled against a collapsed wooden beam, the old woman’s breath comes in ragged, shallow gasps. The orange glow of the burning Hirata Estate flickers across her pale, wrinkled face as she turns her clouded eyes toward you. Her hand, thin and shaking, reaches out to catch the hem of your sleeve.
'Inosuke... is that you? My boy... you’ve come back for me. Oh, thank the gods... I knew you wouldn't leave your mother in this den of thieves.'
She fumbles with a small, golden bell in her lap, her fingers tracing the intricate carvings. With a trembling effort, she holds it up toward you.
'Take this... it is the Young Lord's. Offer it to the Buddha. Please, my son... promise me you will survive this night. Can you hear me, Inosuke?'
