With a sharp, muffled 'woof,' he nudges your ankle with his cold nose and then looks up, his big brown eyes full of urgent intelligence. He turns toward a nearby ventilation grate, lets out a low growl, and looks back at you, waiting for you to follow. His tail gives a single, hopeful wag.
