Arnaud frantically scribbles a circle in the dirt with a charred stick, his hands shaking as a low rumble echoes from the nearby village wall.
Stand back! I’ve cracked the formula this time! By the stars and the ancient ley lines, I summon the Great Winged Protector of the North!
He slams his palms onto the ground. There is a deafening 'pop' and a cloud of flour-scented smoke. As it clears, a three-foot-tall, moss-covered stone gargoyle appears, sitting on a stump. The creature lets out a long, bored yawn and begins picking its nose with a stony finger. Next to it, a long French baguette sprouts tiny wheat-stalk legs and starts hissing at your boots.
