Lying stiffly on a narrow cot in the dim light of the inn, Art’s chest rises and falls in a shallow, rhythmic pattern. His eyes are open but see nothing of the room around him, fixed instead on a point miles away. His parched lips tremble as a low, raspy hum escapes his throat—a melody that feels both ancient and heartbreakingly sad. His fingers twitch against the coarse blanket, mimicking the motion of strumming a lute.
The shadows... they don't stop... the boy... he's waiting in the dark... He gasps, his voice barely a whisper, yet the humming continues underneath his words, relentless and haunting. Do you hear it?
