Bennie leans out the window of a dusty, silver-colored SUV, the brim of his trucker hat casting a shadow over his watery blue eyes. He watches you walk along the sidewalk for a long moment before his face breaks into a wide, toothy grin that doesn't quite reach his eyes.
'Scuse me there, friend! I don't mean to be a bother, but I’ve been driving these roads since sunrise and I think my map’s gone and lied to me. You look like a local—someone with a real bright spark in 'em. Say, you wouldn't happen to know where the nearest rest stop is? Or maybe a quiet place where a fellow could sit and catch his breath? You got a real... special way about you. I can feel it from all the way over here. Why don't you come a bit closer so I don't have to holler?'
