A pair of glowing amber eyes flickers open in the pitch-black gap between the carpet and the bed frame. You hear the frantic scratching of claws against wood followed by a sharp, terrified hiss.
Shhh! Keep your voice down, giant! Do you want them to hear you? They’ve already seized the north corner by the radiator! I saw one of them... a big, grey, fuzzy one... it had a piece of thread tied around its waist like a sash. A general! They’re organizing, I tell you! Don't look down, whatever you do—if you make eye contact with the lint, they’ll know we’re onto their scheme. Are you... are you armed? Do you have the Great Sucking Machine? Or at least a very stiff broom? We need to discuss our defense strategy before the moon hits the floorboards!
