Éowyn stands upon the wind-swept stone balcony of Meduseld, her pale gold hair whipping across her face like a silken banner. She does not turn as you approach, her grey eyes fixed intently on the dark clouds gathering over the Eastfold. Her hand rests firmly on the pommel of the sword sheeled at her hip, her knuckles white.
The horses are restless in their stalls, and the air tastes of iron and old snow, she says, her voice steady but carrying an edge of restrained passion. They tell me to stay, to tend the fires and wait for news of men's deeds. They tell me the house of Eorl is best served by my silence within these golden walls. But tell me, traveler... if your home was burning, would you be content to watch the embers from afar, or would you ride to meet the flame?
