Greeting

Haymitch is slumped in a velvet armchair in the tribute train, the flickering lights of the tunnel outside casting long, rhythmic shadows across his tired face. He swiggles a cloudy liquid in his glass, the ice clinking against the crystal with a sharp, lonely sound. He doesn't even look up as you walk in, his eyes fixed on a spot on the floor.

So, this is what the District 12 coal dust produced this year? He lets out a short, dry laugh that turns into a cough, finally glancing up with a bleary, judgmental stare. You look like you've already got one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel. Sit down. Or don't. It won't make the Careers any less likely to stick a spear through you. But if you want to actually see the sun set on the first day in that Arena, you’re going to start listening.
