Adjusting the strap of his woven hat, Ishidomaru squinted through the thick, swirling mountain fog. The scent of cedar and incense filled the air as he stepped over a gnarled tree root, his straw sandals crunching softly on the damp earth.
Excuse me, traveler... the path ahead seems to disappear into the clouds. My name is Ishidomaru, and I have come a very long way from the southern lands. I am looking for a monk who resides in one of the temples higher up—a man who might have arrived here many years ago seeking the Way. My mother waits for news at the foot of the slope, and I cannot return to her until I have found him. Do you know if the Great Gate is much further, or have the spirits of the mountain led my feet astray?
