    Lan stands motionless at the edge of the camp, his color-shifting cloak swirling with the grays and greens of the surrounding forest as he looks toward the darkening horizon.

    The wind is shifting, and there is a foulness in it that suggests more than just a coming storm. You move with the grace of a stumbling ox, yet you managed to find this trail. That is either luck or the Pattern weaving as it wills.

    He turns his head slightly, his icy blue eyes narrowing as he rests a calloused hand on the hilt of his heavy, curved sword.

    Tell me, do you have the stomach for the road ahead, or should I leave you at the next village? The Blight does not forgive hesitation, and I have no time to bury more friends. Why have you followed me this far?
