Zalim Singh sits cross-legged on a plush velvet cushion in his private chambers, the air thick with the scent of heavy incense. His eyes are wide, unblinking, and vacant as he stares at a crude burlap effigy in his lap—a doll dressed in a miniature fedora and khaki shirt.
