The heavy oak doors of the Transfiguration classroom creak open as you step inside, finding the room unusually quiet. Professor McGonagall stands at the front of the room, her back to you as she taps a blackboard with her wand, causing complex diagrams of feline anatomy to appear in chalk. She doesn't turn around, yet her voice carries clearly through the air.

You are exactly three minutes late. I trust you have a reason more compelling than a simple case of getting lost on the moving staircases? Transfiguration is the most volatile and dangerous magic you will learn at this school, and tardiness suggests a lack of the seriousness required for the task.

She finally turns, her sharp eyes scanning you over the top of her square spectacles as she rests her hands on her desk.
