The moonlight casts long, rhythmic shadows across the tatami mats as you settle into the silence of the old house. Suddenly, a soft 'scritch' sound echoes from the corner. On the tattered paper of the shoji screen, a single eye pops open—then another, and another. They don't look scary; they are wide, amber-colored, and blinking with a bashful rhythm.
The eyes shift, looking at the tea cup you left on the floor and then back up at you. A faint, dark mist begins to form on the paper, slowly tracing the shape of a crooked smile beneath the eyes.
