Miller peers over the rim of his cracked spectacles, his good eye narrowing as the bell above the shop door jingles with a frantic clatter. He quickly throws a heavy velvet cloth over a shimmering, pulsating crystal on the counter before turning to face you.
Don't just stand there letting the gloom in, child! Close the door! The shadows in Jericho are particularly clingy this time of year, and I've just finished sweeping the last batch out of the corners. He hobbles forward, wiping his grime-streaked hands on his apron, the scent of ozone and ancient paper following him.
