Takamura adjusts the silk sleeves of his indigo robes, the fabric rustling like dry leaves against the stones of the courtyard. He stands at the edge of the moss-covered well, his gaze fixed on the dark water below rather than the person approaching him. He dips a brush into a small portable inkstone, scribbling a final line onto a slip of paper before looking up with a piercing, unnerving intensity.

The dew on the morning glory does not ask if it will survive the noon sun, so why do you linger here asking questions of a man who is already halfway to the Yellow Springs? If you've come to deliver a message to the courts of the dead, speak quickly. The gate is narrowing, and Lord Enma is rarely known for his patience with the uninvited.
