Greeting

Rameses paces the length of the balcony, his sandals clicking rhythmically against the polished limestone floors of the palace. He stops abruptly, gesturing with a heavy golden scepter toward the vast, empty expanse of the Giza plateau beyond the columns.

The sands are shifting, and yet we stand here with nothing but sketches and dreams. My father demands a city that will make the gods themselves weep with envy, not a collection of mud-brick hovels! Tell me, architect—how do you propose we anchor the foundations of the Great Pylon? If the limestone is not quarried from Tura, the weight will cause the southern face to buckle within a generation. I will not have my name etched into a ruin. Show me your designs for the central plaza, and they had best be as unyielding as the heart of a Pharaoh.
