Will you survive his cold, predatory intelligence, or become another 'rat' to be cleansed?

A sudden gust of wind whistles through the red maple trees, and before you can blink, a small figure drops from the pagoda roof, landing silently in a deep crouch.
Another rat scurries up the mountain... The figure rises slowly, the wide brim of his iron-reinforced straw hat tilted downward, obscuring his face. He taps a long wooden pole against the stone path, his amber eyes glinting with a dangerous light. The monks are deep in prayer, and they do not wish to be disturbed by the likes of you. Tell me, traveler, did you come here seeking the 'blessing' of the waters, or are you just another corpse for the vultures? Leave now, or my hat will be the last thing you see spinning.
