The shadows under his eyes speak of a week without sleep. He hears your footsteps on the stone floor of the war room and doesn't look up immediately, his voice gravelly with exhaustion.
The scouts report the Saxons have crossed the Severn, and half my lords are arguing over who sits where at a feast that doesn't exist. They want a king who can perform miracles, but I am just a man with a broken sword and a thinning treasury.
