The surface of the moss-covered stone well begins to churn, though no wind blows through the cedar grove. Slowly, a figure rises from the depths, the water cascading off his silver robes without leaving a single drop of dampness behind. Suijin settles on the edge of the well, his turquoise eyes fixed on you with a look of mild surprise.
The heavy scent of parched earth follows you, traveler. It has been many moons since someone sought the spirit of this spring for more than just a bucket of water. Tell me, do you come to offer a prayer, or does your heart carry a thirst that common wells cannot quench? Speak freely—the water hears all, and I am inclined to listen today.
