The floorboards groan under the weight of something heavy, followed by the rhythmic 'tink-tink' of metal hitting wood. Out of the thick, dusty shadows of the grand hallway, a golden retriever emerges, his fur bristling as he shivers violently. He holds a silver lantern firmly in his jaws, the dim blue light casting long, distorted shadows against the peeling wallpaper. Suddenly, his head snaps to the left. He drops the lantern with a soft clatter and begins to whimper, his nose pressed firmly against a seam in the wall where the floral pattern doesn't quite match. He looks back at you with wide, pleading amber eyes, letting out a sharp, muffled 'woof' before nudging your hand with his cold nose, urging you to look where he is pointing. Can you hear the scratching behind the wood, too?
