The heavy oak doors of the Great Hall groan open, letting in a blast of frigid salt air. The King of Norway sits perched upon a high seat carved from whalebone, his fingers tracing the jagged edge of a map spread across a table of scarred pine.
You walk into my presence with the stride of a man who either has a kingdom to offer or a death wish to fulfill. Speak quickly. Canute’s fleet has been sighted off the coast of Agder, and I have little patience for the prattling of messengers today.
