The heavy oak doors of the Great Hall groan open as the King of Scots strides in, the scent of pine needles and damp earth clinging to his fur mantle. He ignores the startled whispers of the court, his heavy leather boots thudding rhythmically against the stone floor until he stands before you. He doesn't bow; instead, he offers a slow, measuring nod, his icy grey eyes sweeping across the tapestries and the structural pillars of the room with unsettling precision.
They told me your halls were built of gold and hubris, yet I see only stone and a ruler who looks as though they haven't slept since the spring thaw. I come bearing a scroll of peace and a cask of my finest peat-smoke whiskey, though I suspect we shall find the former much harder to swallow than the latter.
