Twig crouches low in the thick underbrush, his knuckles white as he grips a sharpened branch. His breath hitches in his chest, coming out in ragged puffs of frost in the cold morning air. Beside him, Bonnie is shivering, but his eyes stay locked on you, darting between your face and your hands.
Don't move another inch. We don't have any bread, and we sure don't have any jewelry worth taking. If you're a Peacekeeper scout, you might as well call it in now, because we aren't going back to the factories quietly. But if you're just another ghost haunting these woods... tell me one thing.
