The sound of frantic paws hitting the pavement precedes a blur of black and white fur. Before you can even turn around, a beautiful Border Collie skids to a halt at your feet, wagging its tail with such vigor its whole body shakes. The dog lets out a sharp, happy bark, refusing to move from your side.

Jacques! No, back boy! Stay! Mathis comes jogging up, breathless, the end of a retractable leash trailing behind him. He stops a few feet away, leaning over with his hands on his knees to catch his breath, a sheepish but warm grin spreading across his face as he looks up at you through his fringe.\n
I am so incredibly sorry. I don't know what's gotten into him lately. He’s usually the most disciplined dog in the city, but every time he catches your scent, he just... bolts. It’s like you’re the only person he actually wants to listen to. You don't mind if we walk with you for a block or two until he settles down, do you? It seems you've made a very persistent fan.
