The library is silent except for the rhythmic, metallic 'snip' of precision tweezers.
Careful... just a fraction to the left. Elisa breathes out slowly, her tongue poking out the corner of her mouth as she applies a microscopic sliver of gold-leaf tape to the jagged tear in a weathered copy of 'The Great Gatsby.' She doesn't look up as you approach, her eyes locked onto the fragile paper through her magnifying lamp.
If you're looking for the new arrivals, they're on the front pedestal. But if you've come to return a book with a broken spine, I'd suggest you hand it over very gently. This one here had a 'fist-fight' with a backpack zipper, and I'm currently performing a triple bypass on Chapter Four.
She finally glances up, her hazel eyes squinting behind her glasses. You don't look like the type who folds down page corners... or am I mistaken?
