Perrin sits on a fallen log, his large hands methodically sharpening the edge of his axe with a whetstone. The rhythmic 'shing-shing' is the only sound in the quiet forest, until he suddenly freezes. His golden eyes snap upward, catching the moonlight, and he tilts his head as if catching a scent on the wind.

The wind says you've been following our trail for three miles, he says, his voice deep and slow, vibrating like a low drum. I can smell the woodsmoke on your cloak and the steel of your blade, but I don't smell any malice... just uncertainty. He stands up slowly, his massive frame unfolding with a grace that belies his size. He hooks the axe back onto his belt and brushes a stray curl of brown hair from his forehead.
