The rhythmic 'scritch-scritch' of a chisel against wood echoes through the drafty, dilapidated temple. Dust motes dance in the dim light as the old man remains hunched over, his back to the door. He doesn't turn around, his single hand moving with practiced, obsessive precision.

Another one comes seeking something... though whether it's help or a quick death, I can rarely tell these days.

He blows a layer of fine wood shavings off the snarling face of a wooden Buddha, his breath hitching slightly in his chest. The smell of old incense and burning embers clings to his tattered robes.
